OLOG eNewsletter Term 2 Week 6
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As we enter the final four weeks of the term, our focus sharpens on deepening student learning and progress. Assessment and feedback are now seamlessly woven into daily classroom life, helping every child strive for excellence and success.
A Warm Welcome to Our Newest Receptions
Last week, we were delighted to welcome our newest Reception children and their families. These little learners will officially begin in July, and their transition visits are already helping them feel a sense of connection and belonging at OLOG. We look forward to continuing these visits with Ms Pett throughout the term.
A Visit from the Mayor of Marion
We were honoured to host Kris Hanna, Mayor of Marion, at OLOG yesterday. Alongside our School Board Chairperson, I had the pleasure of discussing our school’s community impact and the exciting partnership with the OLOG Hounds Basketball Academy. Mayor Hanna praised this unique initiative and the enriching opportunities it provides for our students.
P&F Quiz Night – Saturday 28 June
Our Parents & Friends team is hard at work preparing for what promises to be a fun-filled Quiz Night! We encourage every year level to organise tables and join in the excitement. It’s not too late to book your spot, and donations are warmly welcomed to support the event. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated P&F members working behind the scenes to make this evening a success.
Semester 1 Reports
Teachers are currently preparing Semester 1 reports, which will be available via the Community Portal in Week 10. If you’d like to discuss your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to arrange a time with their teacher.
Road Safety – Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders
To ensure the safety of all students:
Morning Drop Off: Please drive to the top of Agnes Street and avoid stopping outside the bike gate.
Afternoon Pick Up: Display your family name clearly in the front windscreen and proceed to the top of Agnes Street for collection.
Positive Behaviour and Expectations at OLOG
At OLOG, we are proud of our PBIS (Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports) framework, which fosters a safe, respectful, and thriving learning environment. PBIS is more than a program—it’s a whole-school approach that empowers students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our three core values guide everything we do:
Be Respectful
Be Safe
Be a Learner
These values are taught in classrooms, reinforced in the yard, and celebrated across the school. Whether through recognition, reflection, or restorative conversations, we are nurturing students who are kind, responsible, and proud members of our community.
We encourage you to ask your child about the expected behaviours they’re learning—you might be surprised by the thoughtful ways they’re applying them! Just recently, a visitor commented on the kindness and positive culture they experienced at OLOG—a true reflection of the values we live every day.
Peace and blessings,
Josette Charles
School Principal
Term 2 Masses and Liturgies
Thursday 12th June @ 9:15am The Trinity Mass: Year 6
Wednesday 25th June @ 9:15am The Sacred Heart of Jesus: Whole School Mass
Year 3/4Mass
Last Thursday the Year 3/4’s celebrated the Feast of Saint Paul VI.
Saint Paul VI, was a shepherd of the Church who led with wisdom, humility, and courage during a time of great change. As pope, he continued the work of the Second Vatican Council, guiding the Church into deeper dialogue with the modern world and reminding us that faith and reason walk hand in hand.
St Paul VI was a pilgrim of hope and unity—a man of deep prayer, devoted to the Gospel and to building bridges across cultures and beliefs. He reminds us that holiness is not reserved for the few but is a call for all.
We prayed to the Lord to renew in us the same spirit of faith, courage, and openness that St Paul VI embodied. May we, like him, respond to God’s call with trust and love.

National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week
National Sorry Day, observed annually on May 26, is a significant day in Australia that acknowledges the Stolen Generations- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families under past government policies. It serves as a time for reflection, healing and commitment to reconciliation.
National Reconciliation Week (May 27-June 3) is a time for Australians to reflect on the journey towards reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.
The Catholic Church plays a significant role in this process, emphasising healing, justice and unity.
We celebrated in classes through prayer, song and reflection.
A Prayer as we Travel Together Towards Reconciliation
Creator God of Holy Dreaming, Bring us together as one, Reconciled with you and one another.
Bless Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of this land— The first peoples to receive your blessings in this land, The first peoples to see your beauty in the land, water, sky, and nature, The first peoples to hear your voice in ancient stories, The first to give you praises in ancient places, The first to know your love and love you in return.
God bless the Elders keeping culture and languages alive. Bless all who work in Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, Making friends, growing partnerships to a deeper understanding of culture and languages, Learning to love and grow together.
Give us grace to travel together towards reconciliation For the sake of Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Sessions for the Sacrament of Confirmation started last night.
We currently have six children in the Sacramental Program; James S, Hunter B, Josienne H-F, Frank P, Lawrence H-F, Hannah C.
They will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation on Tuesday 24th June at 7:00pm at OLV Church.

Fun-Run & Cross Country Day – Monday 23 June
We are excited to announce our upcoming whole school PE event on Monday 23 June, taking place at Da Costa Reserve.
- Reception(500m), Year 1 and Year 2(1km) will participate in a Fun-Run, and
- Years 3 and 4 (1.5km) to Years 5 and 6 (2km) will compete in our annual Cross Country event.
Students will walk together to the reserve in year level groups at different times throughout the day. Once there, they will run, jog, or walk distances suitable for their year level. They have been practising running certain distances all throughout the term and they will be prepared for this event.
House Points & Awards
Every student who completes their course will earn valuable House Points, which will contribute toward the Cross Country Day Trophy for the winning house on the day.
Year 5 and 6 students will complete a course of approximately 2 kilometres, and the fastest girl and boy will each receive a medal on the day.
We Need Your Help!
To make the day a success, parent helpers are needed for roles including:
- Marshalling around the course
- Walking groups to and from the reserve
If you have the required volunteer clearances, we’d love your support — even if it's just for your child's race.
Please contact us at sports@olog.catholic.edu.au if you can help or if you have any questions.
Race times will be confirmed in the next newsletter. Stay tuned!

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Premier's Reading Challenge
We’re so proud of the students who have already completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge and handed in their forms - what an outstanding effort!
We have a running tally in the library to celebrate those who finish, and it’s growing every week. If your child has completed their challenge, please make sure they return their form to the library so we can officially record their achievement. Just a reminder that students should be reading books at their appropriate reading level to make the most of the challenge. Spare forms are available in the library or can be downloaded from the Premiers Reading Challenge website if needed.
Let’s keep the momentum going and celebrate all our wonderful readers!
