OLOG eNewsletter Term 2 Week 4
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Year 5 Mylor Adventure Camp - Mylor
Yesterday we farewelled a very excited group of Year 5 students, as they boarded the bus for camp at Mylor! The camp and outdoor program will provide the students with an action packed 3 days. Our social media will provide an insight to the experiences at Year 5 camp. Mr Mylonas, Mr Evans, Mr Lachlan and Mrs Scuteri were excited and ready for the adventure at Mylor.
Student Learning
I regularly spend time in all learning areas working alongside students in their learning. I will ask students questions to hear a deeper insight about their learning.:
What are you learning? Why?
How are you doing?
How do you know?
How can you improve? Where do you go for help?
Ms Sue Brinkworth, Leader of Learning, works with all teachers to structure learning. Through this collaboration teachers at OLOG develop and provide well-structured teaching and learning. Lessons begin with:
- reviewing prior learning
- providing a short statement of learning goals (learning intention)
- presenting and teaching new learning in small steps, with student practice after each step
- students being provided with detailed instructions and explanations
- providing students with a high level of practice
- regularly asking questions for understanding
- guiding students during their learning
- providing feedback
- providing explicit instruction and practice for seatwork and exercises
- monitoring students completion of learning and work.
Like anything, we teach students, to be persistent with their learning and this is something you can support us with at home. You, as parents, are the most positive force for change in your children’s lives, so if they are hearing about the importance of persistence at home from you to, they are going to know it’s an important and valuable skill to support their learning and progress.

Safety Walking Home - Message from SA Police:
“Students and families are reminded to be wary of approaches from strangers, especially when they are unaccompanied or travelling to and from school. If they are approached, students should not respond and should not accept offers of rides or gifts.
Students should seek the assistance of other nearby adults if they feel unsafe and should report the event to a trusted adult (parent or school staff member) as soon as possible.
SAPOL advises that taking out a mobile phone and calling police can deter the offender and they recommend the student making a formal report to their closest police station.”
Peace and Blessings

Mother's Day Breakfast
At Our Lady of Grace School, we believe in the importance of celebrating the amazing women who shape our lives. On Friday 10th May we honoured our mother’s, grandmother’s and special friends with a croissant breakfast, followed by a beautiful Mother’s Day Liturgy.
The weather was in our favour, and it was lovely seeing so many mother’s and special friends mingling and chatting.
To all the mums and significant female role models in our community we say thank you.
Your love and dedication are truly appreciated. We hope you all had a Happy Mother’s Day.
Catholic Education Week
Last week we celebrated Catholic Education Week.
It is a celebration of quality teaching and learning across Catholic Education South Australia.
The children participated in varied activities throughout the week with the theme Raising Hearts and Minds to the wonder and awe of God’s creation.
We also had our ‘Coins in Hearts’ event raising an amazing amount of $643.50 which will be donated to the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry.
We certainly grew our hearts physically with our coins and figuratively in the way we embraced the challenge.
Thank you everyone for your contributions and enthusiasm towards the event.
A special thank you to the Mini Vinnies Leaders, Mikayla EB and Ivy H for their input and effort to make the event so successful.
Laudato Si’ Week
This week we celebrate Laudato Si’ Week. The theme for 2024 is ‘Seeds of Hope’. Each class was given a small pot and seeds to grow. These will be placed on their sacred space within their class as a reminder that everyone of us is encouraged to look after our Common Home, Earth.
Joy and Blessings

Today our students, with Tasman Footner over seeing operations, displayed our Whole School approach to Character Strengths.

A big Congratulations to Lucy Ryan on obtaining a A+ for her AMEB Grade 2 Practical Exam. Well done Lucy!
SAPSASA Cross Country Trials
On Monday 13th May, which was our Pupil Free Day, students participated in the SAPSASA Cross Country Trial Day. Accompanied by Theo Mylonas, Lachlan Ash, and Abbey Rice a team of 14 spirited individuals, we embarked on a journey that showcased not only our students' physical prowess but also their resilience and determination.
The cross-country event was not just about crossing the finish line; it was a testament to the values of sportsmanship and teamwork that we hold dear at OLOG. Each student was eagerly encouraged by those watching on, lending support and encouragement, fostering a sense of unity above individual achievements.
As the day progressed, our team showcased remarkable performances from everyone involved. Some notable performances include Olivia Raymond who came second overall in her race. In the same race Clara Floreani finished in the 11th position. In the 11-year-old boys race, Finn Raymond finished in the top 15. Whether they were sprinting through the final stretch or pacing themselves with unwavering determination, every student embodied the spirit of sportsmanship and perseverance.
Beyond the thrill of competition, the SAPSASA Cross Country Trial Day was a celebration of personal growth and achievement. It provided our students with an opportunity to challenge themselves, conquer their fears, and emerge stronger and more confident individuals.
OLOG extends its sincere gratitude and thanks to any parents who helped us out during the day, and a special thank you to Greg Warnes who was there to help out for the whole day.
