OLOG eNewsletter Term 2 Week 6
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We've finished the season of Autumn and now we welcome Winter, as well as the halfway point of the year. It's amazing to see over this time the growth of each of our students and it is a privilege teachers see happening every year.
With winter comes the dreaded colds and flus, along with the increase in respiratory illnesses. Please contact the absenteeism line on 8177 9191 should your child be unwell. If your child still has flu like symptoms, please ensure that they stay at home to recover. We also have many staff unwell at the moment and we are being challenged to find relief staff. Good hygiene practices are also part of learning spaces. OLOG winter beanies are available as well as the winter jackets. All uniform items are available online or from the Front Office.
Semester 1 Reports
Teachers are busy writing Mid Semester reports which will be available and sent home in the last week of the Term. This is a great time of the year as we celebrate our student growth and learning. There will be an opportunity to discuss the learning journey of your child early Term 3. Should you wish to discuss your child’s learning or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a time to meet.
OLOG Pyjama Day: Friday 7th June
OLOG Pyjama Day is a long-standing tradition celebrated every year. Our Dominican tradition and values remind us to be generous and selfless. Our wearing of pyjamas allows us to reach out and assist vulnerable people through Hutt Street. Hutt Street is celebrating 70 years of service, and we are privileged to support Hutt Street tomorrow with our pyjamas day donations.
Throughout the term, students have taken the opportunity to focus on Being Responsible. We are hoping our children will be dependable, make good choices and take accountability for their actions. If our students are being responsible, then they will look out for the wellbeing of others and understand that we all have a part to play in making OLOG the best school it can be.
It is easy to presume our students will automatically acquire the skills to be responsible. However, it is a complex process and personal and social responsibility needs to be taught and actively encouraged. The following are ways you can support your children at home.
- Help to develop their self-awareness by understanding their likes, needs and feelings.
- Be aware of others, especially their feelings and perspectives.
- Always encouraging them to self-regulate by staying calm and using the appropriate language to voice their feelings.
At school we focus on encouraging our students to
- Help others and be respectful.
- Ask for help.
- Follow classroom procedures.
- Follow instructions.
- Go to a quiet space to calm down.
Being responsible helps all students to be successful learners and experience success.
Peace and Blessings

Principal
Pyjama Day
This Friday 7th June, OLOG staff and students will be wearing their pyjamas in support of Hutt St Centre for the Homeless.
Money raised will be donated to provide essential services enacting our Dominican Pillar of Service to others.
Hutt St Centre is a place of connection and support, where people facing homelessness are empowered to rebuild lives. The Hutt St Centre was established by the daughters of charity in 1954.
The Daughters of Charity order was founded by priest Vincent de Paul and his friend Marillac who administered to poor and displaced people in cities and rural areas of 17th century France.
It was the Catholic Church that provided the facilities and identified the need.
The values and the spirit of the Daughters of Charity are embedded in everything they do at Hutt St Centre.
Hutt St Centre provides a multi-service, non-residential agency to support homelessness and vulnerable residents of inner- city Adelaide. In addition to essential personal and professional services, the aim is to achieve secure housing and social inclusion for the disadvantaged and homeless, including frail and aged men and women.
Please support our Pyjamas Day by making a donation to make a difference in the lives of those who face homelessness this winter.
Year 3 /4 Mass
Last Thursday the Year 3/4 children celebrated mass on the Trinity.
The Feast of Holy Trinity Sunday honours the most fundamental of Christian beliefs, the mystery of the three Persons of God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – who are equally God and cannot be divided. It renews in us our own mission to live in communion with God and with each other. We are not called to live without each other, above or against the other, but with the other, for the other and in the other.
It was lovely to see parents and grandparents and the Year 5/6’s join us in our mass.
Sacred Heart of Jesus Mass
We gathered today as a whole school community to celebrate the Sacred Heart of Jesus with a mass.
We are reminded that Jesus’ Sacred Heart shows us how much he loved us and how we should love.
Year 5/6 Mass Saint Peter and Saint Paul
Our final Mass of Term 2 is the Year 5/6 Mass 27th June @ 9:15am.
Parents, grandparents and parishioners are welcome to attend.
Joy and Blessings

Year 3/4 Excursion to Mary MacKillop Museum
On Tuesday 4th June the Year 3/4 students visited the Mary MacKillop Museum. The children have been engaging in learning about Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop’s life and her Ministry.

- Phoning the 24 hour student absentee phone number: 8177 9191 before 8.55am; or
- Completing the absentee form in the Audiri app; or
- By emailing the class teacher or olog@olog.catholic.edu.au
Advance Notice of Absence / absence of more than five (5) days
For advance notice of your child’s absence, please complete the Application for Exemption from School Enrolment/Attendance Form, which is available from the Front Office.
Unexplained absence
If a child is not present and the school has not received an absentee call or email by 9:30am, the office will contact parents (generally via text) to ascertain the student’s whereabouts.
If your child is late
If your child arrives after 8:55am, they will need to enter through the Front Office and be signed in manually by a parents/caregiver via the IPAD (Passtab), then go to the classroom.
