OLOG eNewsletter Term 4 Week 2
Dear Families,
Welcome to Term 4 and I hope the transition from holidays to term time has been smooth, setting a strong foundation for our last term of 2023 together. It’s been a busy start, with Rec/Yr 1 Swimming Week, Year 6 excursion to Parliament House, P & F Sausage Sizzle lunch as well as the many school sports activities commencing for Term 4.
Term 4 is the culmination of this year’s journey and the students need home and school to encourage them to finish well, even when they are tired and busy with end of term events. Help them to keep their eye on finishing proud, giving their very best right until the end.
Remind them also not to compare themselves with everyone else. Help them to reflect on their own individual achievements and notice the growth they have made – academically, personally and socially throughout the year.
In the final term of learning, students are still required to demonstrate the OLOG Way:
- Be an Excellent Learner
- Be Truthful
- Be Respectful
- Be Supportive
- Be Inclusive
We are beginning as a whole school to integrate Positive behaviour interventions and support as a schoolwide systems approach aimed at establishing positive student culture and individualized behaviour supports necessary to create a safe and effective learning environment for all students. This will continue to be implemented throughout this term and in 2024.
Year 6 Canberra Trip
Next Tuesday our Year 6 students depart for Canberra where they will be undertaking an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $90 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
Myself and the following staff: Alistair Fleming, Candice Martin, Sue Brinkworth and Lachlan Ash will be attending with the Year 6 children who are very excited on embarking this wonderful learning in Canberra. We fly to Canberra and return Friday evening.
Happy World Teacher’s Day- Friday 29th October
This Friday we celebrate World Teacher’s Day, a chance for us all to pay homage to our teachers and educators for their skilled work in educating, inspiring and supporting our students.
On behalf of the school community, I sincerely thank our teachers and educators for the great work they do each day to make a lasting impact on the lives of students. OLOG is so proud of the dedicated staff and the significant work, skills and gifts they bring to ensure every student at OLOG flourishes and is successful.
Thank you P & F for the sausage sizzle lunch this week!
Peace and blessings,

Back Packs 4 SA Kids
Acting out our Dominican Pillar of Service, the Student Voice Leaders have helped facilitate our Social Justice Initiative this term; Back Packs 4 SA Kids.
The Student Voice Leaders enthusiastically collated 51 pencil cases for families in need.
This year Charlie, April and Grace were chosen to represent OLOG to deliver the full pencil cases to the Back Packs 4 SA Kids drop off centre. As in previous years they were very grateful for our contributions. Thank you everyone for your effort and generosity.
Catholic Charities and Enterprise Day
Charity is at the heart of Living Catholic. Catholic Charities is an umbrella Organisation that supports the following agencies working with the most vulnerable in South Australia; Hutt St Centre, Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, Centacare Catholic Family Services, Our Lady of La Vang and St Patrick’s Special School.
On Friday 22nd September the Year 6’s held their annual Enterprise Day whereby they created their own business idea and made stalls to sell these products to the students at OLOG. Money raised through Enterprise Day at OLOG is donated to a Catholic Charity.
Enterprise Day was a culmination of 9 weeks of hard work and preparation and resulted in a variety of products and games. There were all types of products spanning from home-made earrings, bracelets, scrunchies, jibbets, tye dyed socks, dog biscuits, slime, claw machines, customised playing cards and all types of games where children could win a vast selection of prizes. The Year 6 students did an amazing job to organise and run their stalls and we thank the OLOG community for their support.
Total funds raised was over $1700.00 and the Year 6’s chose to donate the money to Our Lady of La Vang and St Patrick’s Special School.
Joy and blessings,

Update
The OLOG Master Plan, ratified by the School Board in Term 2 has had further consultation with the OLOG Parish. Whilst the Master Plan has been supported there are five key areas that the OLOG Parish have requested some further consultation on.
These have been noted in an update to the Master Plan and will be addressed with further consultation before embarking on the first stage of development.
Our goal is to continue to work through these five areas of concerns in consultation and collaboration with the OLOG Parish and Fr John.
The Master Plan provides an exciting opportunity to grow and reimagine our entire site while acknowledging the connectedness between School, Community and Parish. The planning and works proposed in the Master Plan represent potentially the largest infrastructure undertaking in the school’s history, This is no small feat! and we don’t expect works to happen overnight. Much planning and consultation has already happened in the last 12 months and we continue that work today and will look forward to sharing with you the progress of our latest consultations with the OLOG Parish.
What now
Throughout the Master Planning process the planning team have considered some short term solutions that would still fit within the longer term Master Plan vision with minimal impact. We are now actively exploring some of these opportunities to provide better amenity for our growing enrolments in the short term. We look forward to sharing these plans with your soon.
Reminder accounts are to be finalised by the 15th of November and all fees to be paid in the year incurred.
Please review your statements issued last term to ensure any existing payment instalments will be sufficient to finalise your account balance.
Afterschool sport charges may still be outstanding from last term.
If you are unsure please contact Kerri on finance@olog.catholic.edu.au
A shared picnic has been organised with Father John on the 5th of November after 10.30am mass for children & families who have completed their sacrament program this year OR are going to be starting it soon.
The picnic will be held in the St.Marys school grounds straight after mass, BYO picnic snacks, games, balls etc.
We would love to see you there.

Congratulations to Year 2 student Dylan Cooper for his outstanding performance at the South Australian Jiu Jitsu Championships. Dylan Placed 2nd in his division. We are so proud of you!
On Tuesday our Year 6 students visited Parliament House for a tour with Stephen Patterson MP - Member for Morphett. The excursion aligns with their learning around Civics and Citizenships and supports their upcoming Canberra Trip.
After the tour the students walked to the Botanical Gardens where they explored the photography exhibition. The exhibition consisted of many compelling shots of living organisms in both their natural and affected environments.
Students also spent some time exploring desert plants in their natural environment and making scientific observations on them
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
My name is Paras Siasios and I am delighted to be be conducting the first ever vocal lessons at Our Lady of Grace School. These 1:1 voice lessons commenced in Week 1 of Term 4. I am currently studying Speech Pathology with a passion and love for music, specially the voice. Since completing Year 12 music I have performed at numerous venues throughout Adelaide as well as maintaining my role as a music educator. This opportunity at OLOG will be an exciting one, for students who want to purse a musical journey in singing. The new program is a great way for students to engage in music and learn a lifelong skill which has numerous benefits.
