OLOG eNewsletter Term 4 Week 2
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Welcome to Term 4! I trust that everyone has adjusted well from the holiday break and is ready to dive into our final term of 2024. It’s been an exciting start, especially with swimming week for Years Rec-3, sports carnivals and First Aid for Rec-Year 2.
Our House Cup day at the end of Term 3 was a huge success. The planned activities ensured teamwork and a positive spirit. Congratulations to our House Leaders for leading the days:
Rayza and Jackson - Dominic
Christine and Max - MacKillop
April and Mitch - Aza
Jaylien and Flynn - Siena
Congratulations to DOMINIC in winning the OLOG Spirit Cup.
As we embark on the final term of learning, students are required to demonstrate OLOG Way, CLEAR Expectations in all aspects of school life and are encouraged to continue to apply themselves academically as they complete the term’s work and outcomes. Term 4 provides the opportunity to demonstrate success and excellence in their learning progress.
World Teachers Day - Friday 25th October
This Friday is World Teacher’s Day. This is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the incredible work our teachers and educators do every day. On behalf of the school community, I thank all the teachers working at OLOG for their dedication and commitment to their students. By celebrating this day and showing our appreciation, we can help create a supportive and encouraging environment that allows teachers to thrive and continue making a positive impact on our children's lives.
Year 6 Canberra
Next Tuesday, our Year 6 students will undertake an education tour of the national capital. They will participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
Year 6 students depart on Tuesday on the 6:00am flight and return Friday 1st November at 9:35pm. The students will engage in some of the following: National Gallery, National Capital Exhibition, GeoScience Program, Parliament House, Government House, a visit to the Japanese Embassy, Australian War Memorial, National Electoral Education Centre, Old Parliament House, National Museum, Royal Australian Mint, Questacon, High Court Australian Institute of Sport. These are some of the programs that our students will have the opportunity to participate.
Our students will visit the Japanese Embassy. This is a first time experience where our students will engage with Japanese culture and language. Mrs Sensei has been working with the students to prepare them for this exciting visit.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding to our school in the amount of $90 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the Canberra trip.
Minister of Education Visit to OLOG
Next Thursday we welcome Minister for Education Blair Boyer, Director of Catholic Education Dr Neil McGoran, Chairperson of SACCS who will be visiting OLOG and have the opportunity to see the wonderful learning and all the OLOG provides for students.
We look forward to the visit next Thursday.

We are thrilled to announce the start of construction for Stage 1A the first of our much-anticipated building works at OLOG!
We welcome the return of Horizon Construction Services who will be our builder for this project (the Horizon’s team delivered our 2019 & 2020 refurbishments).
This milestone marks a significant step toward enhancing and growing our learning environment and embracing new opportunities for our students.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in this journey—from our dedicated Staff, committed Parents, Parish, Students and to our Consultants and Partners who have supported us every step of the way.
Works are anticipated to start from Week 4, commencing with site works to the undercroft and continue throughout the term and summer term break to deliver a new multipurpose space in the undercroft and additional classroom in our hall.
The new facilities will provide students with additional spaces for learning, creativity, and collaboration. We are excited to see how these improvements will inspire our young learners and enrich their educational experience.
Stay tuned for updates as we embark on this transformative journey together.
Here’s to embracing a bright future for our OLOG school community! 🎉
Embrace New Beginnings.
Welcome back to Term 4 of Physical Education at OLOG! We are delighted to kick off another term filled with engaging activities and events that will challenge and celebrate our students' physical achievements. Term 3 ended on a high note with the House Cup carnival and JP House afternoon, and we are ready to continue the momentum.
Swimming Success in Week 1
We started the term with our Year 1, 2, and 3 students participating in a week of swimming. Swimming is an essential life skill in Australia, and we are committed to supporting our students in developing their water safety and swimming abilities. A big thank you to the students for their hard work, the staff for ensuring a safe and enjoyable week, and the parents and caregivers who generously volunteered their time. Your support is greatly appreciated!
This Term in PE
Our Physical Education program this term will focus on refining skill development, exploring Sports Day games for the JP students, and engaging in a variety of minor games. Students will have opportunities to enhance their skills across different sports and activities, as well as practice working in small teams to achieve shared goals. We will also emphasize the importance of health and fitness while promoting values like fair play, respect for others and teamwork.

We have several exciting events to look forward to this term:

DON'T FORGET TO DONATE YOUR OLD UNIFORMS
Term 4 2024 will be the last term for the "old" uniform. From Term 1 2025 students will be expected to be wearing the new style school uniform.
In line with our sustainability and community values, we are proud to announce Our Lady of Grace School will donate any old uniform items to Ghana's First Women's Shelter.
We are also happy to take donations of backpacks, sneakers, and soccer boots!
We ask that all donations are clean and in good condition.
Please bring your donations to the front office, and our P&F member Rebecca Thompson has offered to facilitate ensuring our donations are safely received in Ghana.
Thankyou.

Informing the school of absences
If your child is not going to be at school due to illness, or will be late due to an appointment, it is imperative that you inform the school by:
- Phoning the 24 hour student absentee phone number: 8177 9191 before 8.55am; or
- Completing the absentee form in the Audiri app; or
- By emailing the class teacher or olog@olog.catholic.edu.au
Advance Notice of Absence / absence of more than five (5) days
For advance notice of your child’s absence, please complete the Application for Exemption from School Enrolment/Attendance Form, which is available from the Front Office.
Unexplained absence
If a child is not present and the school has not received an absentee call or email by 9:30am, the office will contact parents (generally via text) to ascertain the student’s whereabouts.
If your child is late
If your child arrives after 8:55am, they will need to enter through the Front Office and be signed in manually by a parents/caregiver via the IPAD (Passtab), then go to the classroom. If this process is not followed and the student has been marked as absent, an automated text message will be generated.
