OLOG eNewsletter Term 4 Week 6
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Hard to believe that we only have three weeks of the school year remaining. With so much happening in the last few weeks I would urge all families to stay in touch with what is happening and upcoming special events.
World Kindness Day occurred last week and is an annual event that encourages individuals to practice kindness and gratitude in their daily lives. It highlights the importance of empathy, understanding, and cooperation to create a more harmonious and caring world. We inspire our students to grow kindness and gratitude in their lives and their interactions.
A wonderful reminder for us all as we enter a busy time of the year, when people are getting tired and emotions are running high.
I remember reading an article about everyone having so much on their plates and the importance of realising that everyone’s plate is different. Some have bigger plates than others, some have fancy plates, while others have broken plates. I guess World Kindness Day reminds us that no matter what, a simple smile can make all the difference for someone.
Changes and Events at OLOG
There have been many changes occurring over the last fortnight at OLOG. Our Little OLOG Transition program for Reception 2025 has been occurring successfully for the children and new families. There are two more transition visits to happen.
Our Year 6 students will be participating in their Year 7 transition visit this Friday at Sacred Heart College and Cabra College. We wish them well for their exciting transition day. Our Year 6 students will be entering their final Primary Years Days with their Graduation Liturgy and final celebrations.
Stage 1A building works have commenced and is in full action.
Markets of Hope and Year 6 Enterprise next Wednesday 27 November 2:00pm
Next Wednesday from 2:00pm on the back court our Year 6 students will lead their Enterprise stalls. Year 5 students are leading stalls based on service. All year levels will have a mission stall. We are calling our stalls Markets of Hope which will involve all students.
Students will need their tokens which can be purchased through QKR.
You may have noticed the designed posters from Year 5 and 6 students promoting their stalls. Parents are invited to attend the Markets of Hope next Wednesday afternoon.
Carols on the Green: Thursday 5 December
Students dress in red, white or green. Christmas colours!
5:00pm-6:15pm- Food stalls
Students meet their teacher at 6:15pm. Students will remain with their teacher throughout the Carols on the Green performances.
6:30pm-7:30pm Carols on the Green commence
On Thursday 5th December from 6:30pm-7:30pm on the basketball court we will host our Carols on the Green. Our students have been busy learning several Christmas songs and movements. They are certainly getting ready for Carols on the Green.
Staffing Update
Our School Counsellor, Rona Spicer, will be retiring at the end of the school year. Miss Rona has assisted many students and families with counselling and student wellbeing. We were so grateful for all the gifts and support that she has brought to the lives of students and families.
Miss Rona is looking forward to this special time and we thank Miss Rona for all her work at OLOG over the last three years.
Miss Abbey Rice (ESO educator) has won an ESO educator position at St Martin De Pores. Miss Abbey has been working at OLOG over the last two years providing learning support in all classes. Miss Abbey has also led the OLOG dance club, which has been a special lunchtime activity for many students. We wish Miss Abbey all the best as she transitions to St Martin De Pores.
Peace and Blessings

Term 4 Masses and Liturgies
- End of Year Whole School Mass: 4th December @ 9:15am
- Year 6 Graduation Liturgy: 10th December @ 6:00pm OLV (Our Lady of Victories Church- High St Glenelg) Please note the starting time of the Year 6 Graduation Liturgy has changed.
Remembrance Day
At 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month each year we remember the moment in 1918 when World War 1 came to an end. On Remembrance Day, we remember Australian men and women who have served in war and peacekeeping activities.
This year we commemorated Remembrance Day with a liturgy.
All the children wore poppies and were very reverent throughout the liturgy.
This was of more significance for the Year 6’s as they had recently been to the War Memorial in Canberra.
Glenelg Christmas Pageant
We are looking forward to this Sunday’s Glenelg Christmas Pageant.
The title of our float is “The First Christmas”.
Reflecting our Catholic Identity, we are dressing up as angels and shepherds.
Thank you to the parent helpers who have offered to walk with us, we have enough helpers now.
Please refer to the information about drop off and collection of children which was emailed to parents who registered their children for the event.
The Pageant will be filmed and broadcast on Channel 44 Community Broadcast. It will be a delayed broadcast, and details will be communicated as soon as the information has been shared.
Carols on the Green
We are in the process of finalising our programme for the night.
This will be shared as soon as possible.
Joy and Blessings

OLOG Fees Policy for 2025 was endorsed by the School Board on Tuesday 19th November 2024 and is now available to Caregivers.
OLOG is mindful of the financial pressure faced by many families, while at the same time experiencing similar cost pressures itself, with this in mind we advise a 2.9% increase to school fees in 2025. This equates to a $100 increase to our full fee and $60 increase to our low income fee, Term 3 Reception intake will remain fee free.
For full details please refer to the 2025 FEES POLICY
OLOG’s last fee increase occurred in 2019 and in 2021 our fees were reduced and have until now remained unchanged.
Sibling discounts remain available for families with more than one student attending OLOG and our early payment discount has been increased to 4% (net of sibling and other discounts) available to accounts paid in full by the 31st March 2025
We also advise that the process for nomination and payment of extracurricular fees will occur via Qkr!
We remind families and caregivers that accounts are required to be paid in full in the year in which they are incurred and no later than 15th November each year.
Payment plans are required to be submitted by the start of Term 1 2025 indicating your choice of payment type and timing. Further information will be provided shortly via audiri to assist families to nominate their 2025 payment process.
OLOG remains committed to working with families who are experiencing financial hardship. If you have any questions about the 2025 OLOG Fee Policy or wish to discuss your account arrangements, or assistance with fees, please contact Kerri Rowell on 81779100 or finance@olog.catholic.edu.au
Stage 1A Construciton Letter to OLOG Community
And we’re off!
Building works have finally commenced and we can certainly see and hear the progress.
The first two weeks have been all about preparing the undercroft area for concrete pour next Monday and our builders Horizon are happy to report all on schedule.
We understand this period has been particularly noisy and inconvenient and we thank our students, staff and families for being so resilient.
Students have adjusted very well to the changes in play times
A reminder to caregivers that the Beadnall Tce gate is not accessible for the duration of construction. Please use the Agnes St/ Front Gate and the Bike Gate for OSCH drop off and pick up in the morning and afternoon.
Agnes St gate is to be used for end of day school pick up and drive through. The main school gate is in normal use during the day for access to the Front Office.

Informing the school of absences
If your child is not going to be at school due to illness, or will be late due to an appointment, it is imperative that you inform the school by:
- Phoning the 24 hour student absentee phone number: 8177 9191 before 8.55am; or
- Completing the absentee form in the Audiri app; or
- By emailing the class teacher or olog@olog.catholic.edu.au
Advance Notice of Absence / absence of more than five (5) days
For advance notice of your child’s absence, please complete the Application for Exemption from School Enrolment/Attendance Form, which is available from the Front Office.
Unexplained absence
If a child is not present and the school has not received an absentee call or email by 9:30am, the office will contact parents (generally via text) to ascertain the student’s whereabouts.
If your child is late
If your child arrives after 8:55am, they will need to enter through the Front Office and be signed in manually by a parents/caregiver via the IPAD (Passtab), then go to the classroom. If this process is not followed and the student has been marked as absent, an automated text message will be generated.
